Is A Pet Mover Really Going To Be Worth The Money When You Shift Overseas?
One of the biggest things you will do for your pet is flying him overseas. It always takes a lot of hard work, and while it’s possible to do it without assistance, pet movers will make this a lot easier for you.
The first step is probably not in the direction you might expect. Instead of talking to an airline, your first step should be to talk to the consular staff in the embassy of the place you are moving your pet to.
Each nation has rules regulating quarantine, for instance. In some countries pets can be brought in only through certain airports. Also, pets can’t travel without travel documents, in the same way that you can’t, and each country will ask for different papers. So your first call should be to the embassy. If you hire a pet mover, they will know that, and this part of the job will be easier.
Next people to talk with are in the airline office. You will have questions about the crate your pet will travel in, and when you and the pet may travel.
At this stage a pet mover would have veterinary advice for you. If you are moving without help, though, you can talk with your vet. You will have to get injections, health clearances and documents from him.
Your pet will travel best if he has only a little food in his system. So give him less the day before he flies and let his bowels move just before you load him.
The container your pet travels in is also important. Here a pet mover will have all the skills and knowledge you need. But if you are working alone choose a container that is large enough for your pet to stand up and turn around in. It will need containers for food, water and any medicines. Make sure the airline staff know how to deal with your pet’s needs.
Above all else, however, see that make sure the papers are all present and filled in right. And when you have that done all that’s left is ‘Bon voyage!’
